- Test tubes, 18 x 150 mm (Nasco item #SB33909M)
- Corks, size 6 (Nasco item #SB10874M)
- Test tube racks (Nasco item #SB30117M)
- Luggage tags (found at Staples or on Amazon)
- Nerd candies in your colors (Candy Warehouse sells knockoff nerds in all colors). We used 1 tub each of yellow and blue for ~150 guests.
How-to: Well, this one is pretty dang simple. Buy all the supplies. Fill the test tubes with candy. Get your bridesmaids to come over and help you write out all of those names and table numbers (because we all know their handwriting is way prettier than your own)! We didn’t have any pictures of this, but there was a “just married” stamp from the Paper Source on the back of the name tags. Tie the luggage tags around the corks, and you’re done!
My little sister filled ALL of these test tubes, which took a good portion of an afternoon. She was a real life saver. My main piece of advice for you if you use a hard candy, like this, is to fill the test tubes at the last possible moment. (We did the day before.) In a humid climate, the candy can begin to stick together, making it difficult to get the candy out of the test tubes.
Organize the test tubes in alphabetical order to make the treats easier to find for your guests.
The chances that you’ll have exactly the right number of test tubes to fill the racks is slim. Ask your florist to bring a few extra single stems of roses or tulips to plop into empty test tubes.
My last tip is to buy more test tubes than you need. Some will break in shipping. Also, if it’s a concern for your venue, you can try to find plastic test tubes to substitute for glass.
Hope this gives you some ideas to nerd-ify your wedding!
